Weekend Intensive Workshop at Tye River Pottery

Our home is your home for the weekend.  Guests should plan to arrive Friday evening in time for a light supper.

Bring your favorite clay tools.  Clay is provided and be prepared to take your greenware home.

Your first day will start at 8:00 for breakfast then out to the studio by 9:00.  Lunch is served noonish, with a mid-afternoon tea break.  The workday ends at 5:00 and dinner is served sooner or later.  All meals are vegetarian (not the stodgy kind, but the delicious kind!)  We are happy to try and accommodate most dietary preferences. Please let us know in advance.

A walk to the river comes highly recommended.  A little black dog will accompany you.

Same for Sunday, but we'll have you on the road by 4:00.

Limit:  4 people

Price:  $395.00, includes room and board (sharing rooms may be required)

Call 43-263-4065 for details.

Playing the Scales of Form

Playing the Scales of Form

  • Truro Center for the Arts at Castle ill (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In this workshop, we’ll explore a variety of forms and the details that give them life - handle placement, spout angle, the relationship of foot to rim, and quick tension of line held between them. First we’ll throw a series of small forms, finish them and then throw the same forms on a larger scale. We’ll examine how scale influences our decisions about those finishing details. Bring a sense of humor. Good for all levels.

Throwing Large Forms

to Jun 30

Throwing Large Forms

The workshop will focus on the techniques and aesthetic perspective employed to produce large-scale pots. Participants will develop alternate methods to throw and center large pots. Throwing large allows a more elastic understanding of the relationship between object and the space it occupies.

Advanced Wheel Throwing: Following Hunches, Taking Risk

Advanced Wheel Throwing: Following Hunches, Taking Risk

  • John C. Campbell Folkschool (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

There are pots we all see just off the center of the wheel...pots we have a hunch about, but often avoid. Enjoy a concentrated week of throwing, breaking through boundaries and trying new forms. (Work will be taken home green.) Bring a pot that inspires you and a poem to share. For intermediate students with enough experience to comfortably center and throw basic forms; sense of humor a plus.
